Google announced, it has accepted the $ 2.6 billion acquisition of Looker, an economic information platform, to strengthen its cloud computing division by providing customers with more powerful data analysis. “Google Cloud is used by many leading organizations in the world for analysis and decision-making,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, in a recent statement. “The combination of Google Cloud and Looker will allow customers to leverage data in new ways to drive their digital transformation,” he said. This is Google’s biggest acquisition since Kurian, a former Oracle executive, was hired at the end of last year to oversee the Google Cloud division.
Kurian had previously said that Google Cloud “would compete much more aggressively” under his leadership, as the company competes for a larger share of the burgeoning cloud computing market. The acquisition of Looker is to be completed later this year and will need to be agreed by the relevant authorities.
