Highlights:

  • With the release of its 2.0 edition of the service in September, Coder offers developers a cloud-native platform that enables them to write, execute, and test code on any device through a cloud development environment.
  • Coder comes in two versions: an open-source, free version for small development teams and an annual subscription that is available for DevOps and platform engineering teams that require more security, observability, and governance features.

Coder Technologies Inc. raised USD 35 million in the latest funding. The remote development platform company will widen its open-source footprint, enhance cloud development infrastructures, and expand worldwide.

Coder, a corporate platform and open-source tool provider founded in 2017, aims to simplify the configuration, security, and scalability of development environments. By reimagining software development and enabling developers to access centralized cloud development environments, or CDEs, from any browser, the business hopes to increase developer productivity tenfold.

To allow developers the flexibility to create, access, and collaborate on development environments from any location—without hosting and managing code locally—the firm markets its service as providing a blend of simplicity and customizability. This streamlines development workflows, saves time, and accelerates innovation.

With the release of its 2.0 edition of the service in September, Coder offers developers a cloud-native platform that enables them to write, execute, and test code on any device through a cloud development environment. Coder 2.0 was created to move development from local workstations to cloud-based workspaces, speeding onboarding and productivity for developers and coders. It included new Dev Container support, a template registry, and connection with JFrog Ltd.’s Artifactory and Xray.

Coder comes in two versions: an open-source, free version for small development teams and an annual subscription that is available for DevOps and platform engineering teams that require more security, observability, and governance features.

Close to 30 million developers utilize the company’s products and services. Prominent clientele comprises Progressive Corp., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Infosys Ltd., Dropbox Inc., Robinhood Markets Inc., and Mercedes-Benz Group AG.

Georgian Partners Growth LP spearheaded the funding round. Current investors Uncork Capital LLC, Notable Capital LLC, and Redpoint Ventures LP also participated.

Rob Whiteley, Chief Executive Officer of Coder, stated, “Coder has great momentum with large enterprises and cloud-native organizations, and we believe there is an opportunity to grow from the No. 1 enterprise CDE to the No. 1 CDE overall, displacing incumbents like GitHub Codespaces. Georgian’s focus on open-source tooling, developers, and AI/ML makes them the perfect partner for Coder as we double down on CDEs.”

Based on information from Tracxn, Coder has raised about USD 85 million in total to date, including the current capital.
