Highlights:
- A new way of thinking about how businesses handle their workloads, and their data is required to keep up with the rapidly developing modern applications that are propelling the digital age forward.
- NetApp and VMware are innovating across the world’s three largest public cloud providers to certify and support VMware Cloud and NetApp Cloud Services.
NetApp, a data storage firm, and virtualization software giant VMware Inc announced the extension of their long-standing partnership.
Through their innovative solutions and go-to-market initiatives, NetApp and VMware are helping clients successfully minimize costs, complexity and risk of moving and modernizing enterprise-class workloads in multi-cloud environments. Additionally, the firms are also helping enterprises spur the performance and delivery of both traditional and modern applications in the cloud. New integrations between VMware and NetApp data management infrastructure also help simplify daily operations.
George Kurian, Chief Executive Officer, NetApp, said, “Customers today are faced with complex challenges to optimize their current IT investments while laying a path forward to modernize and accelerate their business. Together, NetApp and VMware have helped thousands of customers solve their multi-cloud challenges by effectively managing their enterprise workloads in any environment. By delivering powerful new solutions that help companies optimize their virtual data centers, modernize their applications, and provide cost-efficient, enterprise-class data management services to VMware Cloud, we can meet customers anywhere they are on their cloud journey.”
NetApp and VMware: Powering the multi-cloud era
With the new digital age being powered by new applications, the need of the hour is an innovative approach for enterprise workload and data management infrastructure. Today’s businesses rely on the public cloud to streamline operations and speed up business development. Therefore, they need the flexibility to pick from various reliable cloud service providers. These companies also seek modern, unified systems that can manage corporate and digital applications efficiently while making the most of available resources. The prolonged partnership between NetApp and VMware seeks to address these challenges by focusing on three major customer-driven projects:
Migration to multi-cloud that is both cheap and easy
NetApp and VMware are innovating across the world’s three largest public cloud providers to certify and support VMware Cloud and NetApp Cloud Services. This makes it easier for customers who use VMware and either NetApp or non-NetApp storage environments on-premises to move, extend, or protect enterprise workloads and files that need a lot of data to the cloud with less cost and risk. Customers can now adjust the size of their cloud compute and storage architectures to reduce and control the costs of running data-intensive workloads at scale in the cloud. They can also avoid the costs of refactoring applications from on-premises to the cloud. NetApp and VMware have used their decades of experience to manage enterprise workloads in the data center to build fully certified, integrated, and supported solutions that bring the same benefits to customers using the public cloud. These solutions are all built on a trusted workload and data management foundation.
Accelerate Modernized Applications Using Kubernetes and Containers
VMware Cloud Foundation with Tanzu enables IT to control virtual machines and orchestrate containers from a single platform. Customers can easily set up a flexible data fabric for both conventional VMs and contemporary, containerized apps thanks to VMware Tanzu and VMware Cloud Foundation’s support for NetApp ONTAP-based storage arrays. As for Kubernetes workloads, NetApp is a design partner with VMware Tanzu container-native storage integrating Astra Control for VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes (vVols) installations. Utilizing enterprise-scale, high-performance, and protected solutions that are jointly vetted and maintained, customers can now streamline and speed the development and deployment of new contemporary applications alongside legacy virtualized workloads.
Increase data center efficiency with cutting-edge technology
Companies nowadays want a reliable and reasonably priced platform for managing workload and data to make the most of their resources. NetApp is a VMware co-design partner with vSphere and vVols for new and expanded support of key technologies from NetApp file and block storage platforms. This includes new certification and support to allow the use of vVols with NVMe-oF to facilitate enhanced block storage flash performance and more granular VM storage management over multiple types of network transports from FC, ethernet, and standard TCP/IP networks. These include better integration to strengthen the safety and availability of virtualized workloads across NFS 4.1 environments. Customers can now improve the performance of traditional virtualized workloads by capitalizing on existing infrastructure investments and simplifying daily IT operations with the help of solutions that have been jointly validated and maintained.
